Rise Like the Phoenix, Make a donation in Honor of Michael Jackson

On Thursday, June 25, 2009 14 members from Maxwell Air force base flight school visited the Montgomery Rescue Mission with one goal in mind, to put “Service Before Self”.  These folks didn’t look a day over 30!  They cleaned the yard, wiped down tables, washed dishes, served the hungry, homeless and working poor. It was a wonderful experience for MRM and the Phoenix Team, Captain’s in training.

That particular day it was well over 98 degrees outside, in the kitchen the heat index had to be about 110!  Not one of them complained.  As a matter of fact they smiled and served over 100 people with joy.

Special thanks to these fine individuals, especially the third person from the left on the back row of the photo, he was quite a looker!!!  Just a little humor.

Shortly after the team left the mission, a fellow employee nonchalantly mentioned that Michael Jackson had died.  I could not speak for at least 5 mins.  I tried to form words and utter a response but couldn’t.  I was devastated. I sat down for a minute and the receptionist asked me what was wrong, I just shook my head and cried.  To the world Michael Jackson was an entertainer and the King of Pop but to me growing up he was my teacher.  Michael Jackson taught us our ABC’s, he taught us how to look at our selves in the Mirror and challenged us to change our evil ways,  Michael Jackson taught us how to give of our selves.  Michael Jackson gave the world all that he had to offer. For me the lesson I gleaned from Mr. Jackson is to serve others.  I leave you with this, “We Are the World, We are the Children,We are The Ones to make a brighter day so lets Start Giving! ”

Make a donation of any amount to honor Michael Jackson and his service to helping those in need. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INwB0BWVDnM

A Call To Serve

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZaBHgj6jYEServe.org

At the Montgomery Rescue Mission, (MRM) we are so pleased that our President and First Lady is encouraging the nation to roll up their sleeves and serve. It is one of the greatest gifts individuals can give to lift the spirits of those who are hurting or in need of a hand up. On behalf of the director, Chaplain Curtis Browder and the entire MRM staff we welcome your hands and willing spirit.

MRM was established in 1989 with the help of volunteers. Today we rely upon individuals willing to roll up his or her sleeves and serve lunch, cook, clean our warehouses, cut grass, give out food and raise funds. Thank you in advance for your time and willingness to serve the lest of these.
